Low Blood Presure

The heart keeps pumping blood into the arteries. The pressure of blood within the arteries of the body is called blood presure. Blood pressure keeps the blood in the body flowing from the arteries to the organs. Blood presure is high in the arteries and low in the organs. The pumping of blood by the heart and the resistance of the flow of blood by the arteries generates blood pressure.

Low blood presure is the condition in which the pressure of blood is so low that symptoms resulting from the lack of supply of blood to the vital organs occur. In these cases the flow of blood is so low that not enough nutrients and oxygen reaches the vital organs of the body. The blood supply to vital organs such as the brain, kidney, and heart is less than the required amount and hence permanent damage can be caused due to the malfunction of the organs. However unlike high blood presure, whose definition is based on blood pressure alone, low blood presure depends mainly on the signs of the low flow of blood. Suppose a person has a blood pressure of 92/52. He may not show sighs of low blood presure and hence may not suffer from low blood pressure. However one having normal blood presure of 130/80 may show the symptoms of low blood pressure if his blood presure drops to 100/60.

Pregnancy, medications, loss of blood, problems of the heart and dehydration are some causes resulting in low blood pressure.
